Born on February 28, 1940, in Harnett County, NC, Johnny was the proud son of the late William and Mimmie Elliott. He was the baby brother in a big family, and though many of his siblings—Milay, Ed, William Henry, Offie, Lonnie, Hazel, and Raymond—went on before him, the love they all shared shaped who he became.
Johnny grew up on Southern soil, educated in the Cumberland County Schools, and carried with him the lessons of faith, hard work, and family. For many years, he worked as a skilled concrete finisher—a trade that demanded strength, patience, and precision. Johnny poured more than concrete; he poured his heart into every job, leaving behind a legacy of hard work that still stands tall.
He joined Snow Hill A.M.E. Zion Church and was baptized in the faith, worshipping faithfully beside his brother Raymond until Raymond’s passing. But if you really knew Johnny, you knew two things: his love for his family and his passion for racing. He could light up at the sound of engines roaring and the thrill of cars flying around the track. Race day excitement brought him joy, and he loved watching the drivers fight for position lap after lap. The speed, grit, and determination on the track mirrored the way he lived—always moving forward, never giving up, and savoring the ride.
For 54 beautiful years, Johnny was blessed to walk hand-in-hand with his devoted wife, Elizabeth “Jackie” Elliott of Fayetteville, NC. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Their story is one of true partnership and unshakable devotion. His legacy shines through his children—daughters Connie Brewington of Detroit, Michigan, and Tammy McKeithan-McLean (Marvin) of Raeford, NC; sons Anthony McKeithan, Tony McKeithan (Sheila), and Larry McKeithan (Tressa), all of Fayetteville, NC.
Johnny’s love multiplied through his grandchildren, Justin, Davonte, and Alayah, and he now rests with his late grandson, Tony Lamar. His great-grandson Jayden will grow up hearing about the great man who came before him.
Johnny’s circle of love was wide, and he leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his memory. Johnny B’s story is one of strength and gentleness, of hard work and soft laughter, of a man who never met a stranger and never missed a good race. Now, his checkered flag has been waved, his race is complete, and he has entered his eternal victory lane. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a gift that will live on in every life he touched.
